My Articles

For this year's Journalism Academy, I chose to write two of the articles that the feature writers brainstormed of for the newspaper. My first article is on teen jobs. As we all know, the US has been in an economical recession since 2007, and people young and old are in desperate need for jobs. The angle that I took for this story is about how teens are taking more jobs than adults. The recession is effecting the jobs of adults more than it is those of teens. I feel passionate about this topic because I myself have a job and always think about those moms that are in search for a job just to simply be able to support their families. For this article, I have interviewed the managers of three shops located in downtown Athens. The interviews were pretty much how I expected them to be. I asked questions about how they go about hiring people and what their opinions were on hiring teen employees. All of the managers that I interviewed were very nice and willing to be interviewed. My second article has to do with summer concerts and music festivals. I am doing this article with a partner, and we are going to start working on it tonight. We are planning on interviewing some students at the camp who have either attended the events in the past or are planning on attending the events in the future. From there, we will do little write ups on each event.

I am really exciting about how my articles are coming along, and I feel confident that all of the feature writers are going to write great stories to publish in this years newspaper.
